Today, I had my first official Vancouver Olympics "experience":
It's Diamond Week at Canada's Northern House: check it out here
Northwest Territories (NWT) is showing off its Diamond Industry this week, proud to be the third largest producer in the world, and hoping all that sparkle will lure people to discover the opportunities to live, visit and invest in Canada’s North.
As the official gem of NWT, diamonds currently account for just over 50 per cent of the territory’s GDP. The 1991 discovery of diamonds in NWT created the largest staking rush in Canadian history and the Northwest Territories’ diamond mines have provided over 16,000 person years of employment and have surpassed $5 billion in investment with northern and Aboriginal businesses.Striking it rich is still a very real possibility in NWT, and visitors to Canada’s Northern House have the opportunity to meet geologist Diane Baldwin and successful prospector Walt Humphries, representatives from NWT’s successful diamond mines, Canada’s first female diamond polisher Jeannine Pilon and some of the most respected diamond jewellery designers in the world. Come experience the warmth, welcome and wonder of Canada’s North. A visit to Canada’s North provides a lifetime of memorable experiences. The North also has one of the fastest-growing economies in Canada and is a great place to live.
You can go there with kids for stories, songs, shopping and the chance to win one of three unique prizes at Canada’s Northern House- one of them being a $6000 Canadian Diamond. I don't know about you, but I LOVE entering contests! I know the chances of winning are slim to none, but it's still exciting to dream about it. I love the fact that there is so many FREE things to do for the Olympics. I'm excited for it, unlike most people who complain and see it as a problem. Silly people!

My mom has all the photos we took at the Northern House, so I will post them in a few days. There is also apparently all kinds of other "houses" around Vancouver, for the Olympics, so I plan to check them all out- why not? I might learn something!!
