Interactive Artwork

Probably for the next 14 days, my blog posts are going to be about the Olympics because there are so many interesting events/venues/activities going on! I'll be very busy experiencing all kinds of firsts.Today, for my first, I checked out this interactive artwork in Vancouver, called Vectorial Elevation that allows participants to transform the sky over Vancouver. Go here to participate in this work of art! Anyone can do it! ** You need to download the Google Earth Plug-in if you don't already have it, for the display to work**

(From the website) Using a three-dimensional interface, this web site lets you design huge light sculptures by directing 20 robotic searchlights located around English Bay. Once you are happy with your design you submit it together with your name, location and dedication or comments. Every night from dusk to dawn new designs are quietly rendered sequentially as they are added to a queue. The project automatically creates a personal webpage for each participant, documenting his or her contribution with views from project webcams.

With a 15 Km visibility radius, the installation intends to blend the virtual space of the Internet with one of the most emblematic public spaces in Vancouver. Go here to learn about the technology behind the scenes : WOW! This is really awesome!  Go here to learn about some of the environmental considerations they made about the structure! The installation, created by Montreal-based artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, has previously been staged in Mexico, Spain, Ireland and France, but this is the first time they've done it over a body of water!!  Vancouver is beautiful.

I dedicated mine to Matt :)  I was the 8157th person to do this! Here is my personal webpage documenting my participation in the Artwork: click here!

Try something new and different today!  It's great fun!
